A bit of a wildlife day today….after posting the dolphin pics I headed down to the burn to check the backup water pump and found a big adder curled up sleeping on the path.
Quite a brownish one which I think might mean it was a female…
The sound of me walking along the path woke it and it disappeared into the long grass..not sure which one of us got the biggest fright!
I would estimate it was almost three feet long and fairly thick, certainly the biggest adder Ive seen here.
A few years back one of our Whale Watchers was bitten on the ankle by an adder. She was camping near the walled gardens and had thought she’d ‘scratched’ her leg when she got out her tent in the morning. She then went off sick with what she thought was a very bad flu and only after 2 days of being ill found the two puncture marks ..which the local doctor confirmed was an adder bite.
